Paying tribute to the street housing the famed Stax Records – McLemore Avenue is Austin's answer to Memphis-seasoned, jazz-infused instrumentals. Drawing influence from Booker T. & the MGs, the Meters, Jimmy Smith, and the Small Faces, the Hammond-organ-propelled McLemore Avenue also delves into Southern soul, R&B, surf, and lounge.
The quintet is and Austin Music Award veteran, earning multiple nods for Best Instrumental Band and Best Jam Band. Along with contributions to a pair of comps, Shakin' in Your Boots and Chinese Checkers: A Tribute to Memphis Soul Instrumentals, McLemore Avenue's tune "Me Gusta," from its 2003 debut, 926 East, was featured on an installment of NPR's All Things Considered.
Regular performers at Club de Ville, the Hole in the Wall, Beerland, and the Continental Club, McLemore Avenue must be doing something right; they're endorsed by the legendary Hammond Organ Co., makers of the beloved B-3, the backbone of more hits than you can stack on a Leslie speaker cabinet.
