We are over the moon to share them with you for your next event! You will see them at our 12th annual SXSW day party, this year being called RajiWorld + Some (instead of +1) as we have fallen for too many new bands this month! And it is the month that houses Valentine's Day so we thought you would forgive us our new crushes and just join us in the fun with them in March.
JANUARY 2010!
Join me and your community in breathing a new life into Dr. Martin Luther King's words by helping others in our world live their own dreams of freedom. We can do it if we all stick together!
Have you been considering a career change into the music business? You can join me for a few days at work and see if it is for you. “Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.” ~ Buddha.
I have a few favorite sites that remind me why I love my work and my clients and creating this flow of new fans and new work every day! This one is from ZenHabits "Every year, January brings renewed optimism for change, for a better life, for a better you. And that’s a wonderful thing. It’s wonderful, because this fresh start gives us a chance to reinvent our lives and ourselves. It allows us to reinvigorate ourselves, to shed the baggage of the previous year and do anything. Anything is possible!
On that note, Something I am incredibly excited to be working on right now is taking Billy Harvey's life-changing documentary film, songs and inspirational Q and A on the road. We are specifically targeting colleges and churches and it is with great pride that I invite you to experience one of my favorite artist stories out there.
My client, Billy Harvey, bought a gold 1981 Mercedes diesel on eBay in 14 seconds. Soon after, the unconventional environmentally friendly singer/songwriter converted it to run on waste vegetable oil. The plan was to take it on a tour across America traveling all 7,000 plus miles on the, "alternative fuel". What followed was a near epic journey of endurance and self-discovery that was both beautiful, and at times harrowing. Filmed entirely on his laptop camera, Harvey intimately chronicled this fantastic adventure of spirit. From crossing the continental divide on a sheet of ice to digging through oil dumpsters in the freezing cold, to all night drives deprived of any sleep. You will laugh, you will cry you will be kinder to your french fries…and maybe yourself.
DECEMBER 2009
Early congratulations to all RajiWorld clients for their early SXSW acceptance, we will know more on who is able to make the festival and party soon and have a lot of special guests coming in this year in addition to record release tours for Richard Barone, Rattlesnake Shake, Suzanna Choffel, Triple Cobra, Billy Harvey and The Fleshtones touring college markets this spring!
NOVEMBER 2009
Having recently completed recording their debut album in Austin, Texas with Chris ‘Frenchie’ Smith (Jet, Trail Of The Dead, Dandy Warhols), Theart have returned home to join Marilyn Manson on his Australian tour. In Australia, Theart have also toured with such as Sonic Youth, NIN, Eskino Joe and we expect all the best the US has to offer as they return here after their March tour with The Pixies.
OCTOBER 2009
October is kicking off to be all of my favorite things wrapped into a wonderful intertwined roller-coaster. My 10 year old daughter, with her school choir under the tutelage of a total rock star is playing ACL this year! She has attended all access since she was a tiny tot with her Dad and I and for our work, this year we are attending as a fan (of hers). I will also get to re-connect with some of my favorite people in the country and witness the maiden voyage of music at the power plant across the street from my living room window. Visit our friend Rose Reyes and her amazing staff at the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau site for a wealth of information on traveling to Austin, accommodations, maps, things to do, shopping, the music scene, etc. You can also order a free visitor's guide at the site.
The following weekend takes me to Marfa to let the week before sink in and the one coming up next germinate.
Miss Pamela Des Barres returns to Austin to lead another of our writing workshops. There are really no words to describe this experience, If you are a women and want to or already write you should be here with us. We have a Facebook group for chatting and updates and you can register here.
I will be unable to attend in person but have not been so tickled to book something in a long time. If you are anywhere near NY 10/22 and 10/23 you must attend one of our rare Bongos shows!
The band appears in their old "home-room" Maxwell's and then at CMJ and

AUGUST 2009
Check out the new songs Edison Chair has recorded in Austin but been playing for LA based International label heads.
In addition to the lads first trip to LA I had a wonderful one there myself that included a house concert at Pamela Des Barres's (check out her new website and blog) for Billy Harvey and filled with the best of my friends, industry and new Billy fans like client and friend Grey DeLisle.
I was able to accomplish my favorite role as muse/agent/friend/physic as I brought my family and business and music worlds together. Many new connections were made in LA and in Austin where my home was house sat by my new favorite band who were sent to me by my daughter's LA God-Mother! You will soon be hearing a lot about THEART, Frenchie At The Bubble made a gorgeous record for them while they dined on Austin's best raw food, swam in Barton Springs and took ultra care of my kitty.
JULY 2009
If this last bit of July is indicative August will be huge. All I have for you this month are big bold stories, heroic efforts and pride the size of a Disney made Lion's roar for those who make my world spin. You will hear a lot more next month for the event itself 9/9 at Antones but this month is a great time to contribute to the fund set up for our favorite Rock Star photographer, in a poor economy nothing is worth more then art and those who create it, We need our friend Todd back where he should be, dancing to his new fave band! Triple Cobra.
In fact I want you to be there so badly I challenge you to buy a ticket for a friend to go if you are unable to, I will buy a ticket for the first of you to reply to me here Tickets are on sale here and this event will be magical and you will be helping plant roots for someone's success with your very presence to support future Hickory Wind Ranch residents!
Come out tonight and see Nakia live then stick around and talk shop as he is looking for some amazing fill in players for touring.
"Unfortunately, most of the current Southern Cousins/SoCoSubs are:
1. In other bands
2. Teach/Have day jobs
3. Not into traveling as much as they used to be
4. All of the above LOL!
So, in an effort to insure that I have a great team of players complete with second and third strings, I am reaching out to you, my friends in the music community, to ask for your help. If you know of some good players who don't mind traveling with a knockout southern soul/blues band please send them my way. Below is my current contact info and a link to my website where these folks can get an idea of what I do including videos to see what our show is like.
I am looking for guitar, bass, drums, keys, and backing vocalists.
Most of you know my band members personally, so please don't think this means someone has quit or there is any bad blood. The Southern Cousins and the Fresh Up Girls are still rocking and rolling. I have just realized that this is an essential part of the next step in my career and although I am blessed with some of Austin's best talent, I must have top quality players who are ready to travel - even for 1 and 2 night runs out of town, but eventually leading up to 2 and 3 weeks at a time.

We are proud to present for nationwide booking the "Best Discovery" At SXSW 2009!

- Spin, March 2009
July represents a new chapter at RajiWorld. We step up the consulting side of things with new services offered and new clients worldwide and we set a favorite friend free to find independence.
Billy Harvey is moving to LA and kicking it off with a highly coveted weekly play at Largo.
Go see him, it is one of those things you want to be a part of. Start the experience here He will be back in late September for a visit and very special show.
"Somewhere, there is probably someone who lived in England in 1960 who turned down a chance to go to The Cavern Club because he had never heard of the band. "The band" in question was, of course, The Beatles. They went on to have a bit of success in the music business; enough success that the guy who didn't want to go see them play because he had never heard of them is still kicking himself black-and-blue 40 years later. So when you're trying to decide whether or not you want to drag yourself out to see someone unknown play....just remind yourself that every musician was once an unknown, and that every musician who sells out arenas for hundreds of dollars per ticket once played somewhere for under ten bucks. And someone who paid hundreds of dollars to sit in the last row of an arena once turned down the chance to sit on the first row of a small venue for next to nothing. Don't be this person!" SO the moral of this often repeated quote is to support live music, you will thank yourself and sooner then later.
I was able to see both Suzanna Choffel and Skyrocket entertain them this week In addition to all of Suzanna's other big wins, she has just swept the the prestigious International Songwriting Competition as second place winner in the AAA category! she is currently finishing her new record here in Austin with some pretty stellar help!

This month's panel of judges so far includes Rose Reyes ("Rose is like the secretary of state for Austin music," says Rich Garza, producer of Austin's Pachanga Latino Music Festival. "She's the perfect ambassador for Austin's incredibly diverse artistic community." As director of music marketing for the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, Reyes' mission is cut and dry: Bring conferences to the Convention Center, which in turn fills local hotels, and promote the city to visitors and tourists), David Murray (guitarist, producer and songwriter who began his career in the 1970s as a teen at the legendary Antone’s night club. There he learned from and performed with blues greats such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Albert Collins and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Additionally, he has performed multiple times on Austin City Limits and NBC’s Friday Night Lights), Jay Woods (Sr. Vice President at New West Records; Director Of Sales and Marketing at Justice Records; Director of Sales and Marketing at Doolittle Records). Jay has served the Austin Music scene as well with his work with the Austin Music Commission, The SIMS Foundation and HAAM. Jay now works as a consultant to many artists and small labels here in Austin. And Joseph Stallone a leading legal advisor in the music industry and represents a number of music industry clients, including Grammy-winning artists. Stallone is governor with the Texas Chapter of The Recording Academy (currently serving as the State Advocacy Committee Chairperson) and a member of the Entertainment Law Initiative. We met Stallone, however, through the wonderful Grounded in Music. Grounded in Music was founded in early 2007 in Austin, Texas by Stallone and other music industry professionals. Grounded in Music's sole mission is to inspire underprivileged kids to turn to music as a career, hobby, or alternative to life on the streets.

Nakia’s full- throated, gritty howl that lights this fire. Someday, Nakia’s vocal chops are going to be front and center as part of the next great supergroup to come out of Austin (a la the Arc Angels or Storyville). But until then, this one-name solo artist is doing just fine with a little help from his friends.” Texas Music Magazine
One of his favorite musical friends is Matt Hubbard and we are happy to recommend this pairing and right where it belongs in the heart of old school Austin. Join us on Facebook to RSVP
Matt Hubbard wows audiences with his boogie-woogie piano, harmonica, trombone and baritone voice playing what the Austin Chronicle calls "back-alley beatnik blues."
Matt works in the Austin, Texas music scene as a solo performer, bandleader, sideman, studio musician and producer. He has worked with Willie Nelson, Ray Price, Fastball, Papa Mali, Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and many others. Willie Nelson wrote in his memoir The Facts of Life and Other Dirty Jokes: "Matt Hubbard, remember that name. I believe you'll be hearing a lot more from him in the future."
The better you know me the more you will understand why I am so pleased to announce the touring partnership with Richard Barone! From his stint as a 7 year old Florida DJ onto his production collaboration with Tiny Tim at age 16 and a variety of artists including a recent duet between Liza Minnelli and pianist Johnny Rodgers, a children's album for former model Jolie Jones, daughter of Quincy Jones, recordings for B-52's frontman Fred Schneider, and others. As a producer/director, he has created large-scale concert events, including tributes to Peggy Lee at Carnegie Hall, Chicago's Ravinia Festival, and the Hollywood Bowl in 2003 and 2004, and concerts for New York's Central Park SummerStage. The 80's saw him fronting The Bongos In 2006, the original three Bongos re-entered the studio with long time fan Moby producing to create bonus material for a CD reissue of the group's debut album. The remastered, 27-track Special Edition of Drums Along The Hudson, which was released internationally by Cooking Vinyl Records in June, 2007, includes rare, live bonus tracks and new studio recordings. An accompanying video for "Bulrushes 2007," a reprise of the band's early single, "The Bulrushes" featuring Moby, was released simultaneously on iTunes.
In September 2007, Barone's memoir, FRONTMAN: Surviving the Rock Star Myth, was published by Backbeat/Hal Leonard Books, and his complete solo catalog was re-launched at the iTunes Music Store. In late 2007, he began staging a series of 'musical readings' of FRONTMAN, both live and on radio, with excerpts of the book read by television actress Joyce DeWitt and radio personality Vin Scelsa, among others. Musical accompaniment was performed using the new Gibson Les Paul HD.6x-Pro Digital guitar (an instrument to which Barone contributed as artist consultant) in surround sound. On his birthday, October 1, 2008, he brought FRONTMAN: A Musical Reading to the stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City, with "Special Guests and Legendary Friends," including Moby, Lou Reed, The Band's Garth Hudson, Marshall Crenshaw, Terre and Suzzy Roche, Randy Brecker, Carlos Alomar, and many others. The concert was held as a benefit for public radio station WFUV 90.7 FM in New York.
Barone lives in Greenwich Village, where he recently completed tracks for his new album, GLOW with veteran producer Tony Visconti (Bowie, T. Rex). Also working with Barone on the project were producers Mike Thorne (Soft Cell, Bronski Beat, Communards, Wire), Steve Rosenthal (Lou Reed, Monster Magnet), Steve Addabbo (Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin), songwriter Paul Williams, engineer Leslie Ann Jones at Skywalker Sound, photographer Mick Rock and others. GLOW is currently being released via iTunes and Amazon.com as a series of 3-song EPs
You are on your own for Mother's Day Weekend (although there is a LOT to do and I hope the weather everywhere is as nice as in Austin) but next weekend I have some MUST SEE shows for your pleasure. Join us for lunch and an incredible show featuring 3 of ALTWorld and Austin's finest.
Later that afternoon an Austin tradition is being brought back to life May 17th at the Nutty Brown Cafe in SouthWest Austin. APRIL 2009
Next Up at ALTWorld, Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 1-5 p.m is a workshop to be held at Jovita’s download your submission form here if you are under 19 or a parent of a talented teen.
This month's panel of judges so far includes Award-winning rock journalist and Teen Up Starter Margaret Moser (Austin Chronicle, Next Up Austin), Harmoni Kelley, lovely local bass playing queen to Bob Schneider, Bruce Hughes, Jon Dee Graham, James McMurtry, - poet, videographer, killer guitar hero and producer Billy Harvey and our Multi-Media Guru Mark Alba with prizes like a band photo shoot with Cory Ryan Photography, band website design training from Fishtank Design (Ian Moore, Jimmie Vaughn and RajiWorld), a workshop on" stage fright"/"performance anxiety" with Wayne Meyers and a Demo recording session with Graham Sattinger (Ballet Austin and the Armstrong School).
Our last workshop Sunday February 22, 2009 yielded some pretty great results, We are proud to announce the first signing out of our ALTWorld Auditions, EDISON CHAIR. Hear the band speak on the workshop's early results.
Edison Chair is a three piece teen rock band from Austin, Texas that brings an innovative, eclectic style of music to the forefront of the Austin youth scene. Focused on quality songwriting and musicianship rather than on digital effects or synthesizers, band members Martin Aker, Wes Armstrong and Nathan Thrash make a tight musical partnership that grabs hold and doesn't let go with songs good enough to prompt multi-platinum songwriter Monte Warden (Kelly Willis, Patty Loveless, George Jones, Bruce Robison, Travis Tritt, and George Strait,) to bring some of New York and LA's finest major label producers Bruce Brody (Rickie Lee Jones, Lone Justice, Pulp Fiction Soundtrack, Maria McKee) and Jose Alcantar (Blue October) to town to take them into the studio this week.
And if that were not enough, Rising Austin Star Nakia hand picked them to open on his upcoming record release show!
Nakia
Water To Wine Release Party
April 25
Jovita's - 8pm / $8
Growing up in the only biracial family in a small Alabama town, the son of a Hispanic father and mother of Irish stock, Nakia Reynoso (who goes by Nakia) didn’t exactly fit in - but channeled middle school racist-tinged bullying into soul music – all the way to Austin, where he has been pulling in crowds on a weekly basis.
With appearances under his belt at SXSW, Nakia is releasing his debut album, Water To Wine on April 7. Recorded with producer and guitarist Mac McNabb, the album summons the joyous rhythms of southern-fried brown-eyed soul; buoyed by his band, The Southern Cousins --and his back-up singers The Fresh Up Girls.
Along with his potent voice, Nakia shows off his writing by renewing the Stax/Volt spirit with “On The Bus” complete with a “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” whistle part, and a groove as deep and wide as the Mississippi. He struts on “Choose Your Poison” -- and testifies like a true believer on the title track and “All Over You.”
Water to Wine also includes songs written by and with Michael Fracasso, one of Austin’s most acclaimed singer-songwriters, as well as a number co-written by the Austin hit country songwriter Monte Warden — two of Nakia’s many supportive peers within the city’s music scene. Together, they take listeners on a grand and scenic tour of Southern soul and R&B from the church (“Safe Inside”) to the street (“There Goes The Neighborhood”) and to the bayou (“Elizabeth Lee”.)
“He’s the real deal ya’ll, he’s got some serious soul.” Sharon Jones
"I absolutely love Nakia’s Water To Wine, I love the singing, the songwriting and most importantly, the soul. His talent shines.”
Michelle Shocked
“The debut full-length from Nakia proves the Appalachian-born belter one of Austin’s most talented singers.” Austin Chronicle
“His live performances are akin to a religious experience. With his first full-length release, Water To Wine, Nakia captures his trademark soulful, spiritual sound. It’s a big, theatrical voice, and an execution that’s Southern gospel with more than a hint of Joe Cocker.” Texas Music Magazine
“I receive dozens of demo recordings from aspiring Austin musicians; Nakia’s submissions have always stood out from the pack. I am excited that his debut album is coming out so that all can hear his magic. He’s got a lot of tricks up his sleeve.” Jody Denberg, Program Director/KGSR

FEBRUARY 2009

but please read on to see what cool gigs one gets as a grown up. February is chock full of amazing things for you to see and hear.
Please join us Sunday afternoon 1-5 February 22nd at Jovita's 1619 South First St. Austin, TX 78704 Great food and drinks available for purchase

I have some exciting news! I have, with my friend Harper Ferguson started a new division at RajiWorld, It is ALTWorld- Austin Live Teens, a full service agency + for our local teens
We will offer traditional booking but with a focus on all- ages events, music lessons, film connections, regular auditions and rehearsals, mentors and discounts on things like classes and gear they may need. We will act as homeroom for them to utilize to make it work for their band and we cannot do it without you and your words of encouragement. I am making a website and thought it would great to have the stories of well respected artists for the kids to read.
I have hand-picked an incredible array of local and national artists, buyers, teachers, bankers, film folks and more for our advisory board. They are willing to help us on a long-term basis!
Monte Warden was the first one I spoke with and he is on board as a judge in our first audition (2/22 at Jovita's 1-5 pm- see below) and will be on our advisory board. I have included his charming story below and I would love your help in getting the word out this week and next on our audtitions. If YOU know a talented teen be sure to let us know that too.
"I started playin' the guitar when I was 11. I began playing out on the sidewalk on 6th Street when I was 14. I played mostly originals with a few Buddy Holly songs thrown in. Before long, Margaret Moser of the Chronicle began taking an interest in me and writing about me a little. In 1983, at the age of 15, I started my 1st real band, Whoa, Trigger!. We got real popular, real fast and even won BEST NEW BAND at the 1983 Austin Music Awards. I have gone on to record 5 albums for 3 different major labels, had 70 major label cuts as a songwriter, over a dozen songs on the Billboard charts, and have sold over 10 million records as a songwriter and publisher. NONE of this would have ever occurred if I had not gotten my start in the wonderful Austin music scene as a teenager."- Monte Warden
This idea has come from a love of helping kids find their way in music, the last event we were this excited about was one with Grounded in Music (below), we are thrilled to be working with them in ALTWorld and for our SXSW day party.
Help us welcome one of Austin's new talents from LA in a very artistic collaboration sure to be the start of something BIG, prove you were there in the beginning by actually coming, we promise to take a lot of pictures of the beautiful people sure to flock this show- trust us, you can dance, drink, people watch and snuggle up on the couches or hide out in the rec room upstairs...
JANUARY 2009!
Roggie and Nakia's favorite local and hardworking group works to teach kids about music...
School districts have been tightening budget belts, and unfortunately, the educational cuts are usually in art or music.
That's why the local group Grounded in Music hopes to keep students involved.
"I feel great. I feel kind of nervous and kind of not," said the group's oldest member, Dennis Washington.
He's been studying music at The Boys and Girls Club of East Austin for the past two years. Their group has learned how to write
and sing, thanks the organization Grounded in Music.
"We bring great Austin musicians into the club and we teach them how to play guitar, play drums and rap; how to write songs
and how to play piano. We also bring out of the club, and out of the classroom environment and behind the scenes," said
Joe Stallone, co-founder.
Grounded in Music works with kids ages 10 to 18 with the hopes they'll stay at the Boys and Girls Club, rather than be on
the street.
Thursday night i! First auditions set for 2/22/09 in Austin TXs its biggest fundraiser of the year at Gibson Guitar. The opening act is The Club Boys.
Nakia will be performing, then headliner Patty Griffin. The money raised will be used to pay for student instruments and the
salary of the music teachers. And as a mother I love that!
As I am finding already my holiday and journey all over TX has paid off! I fell in love with this state on so many levels and I
am very excited to build our tours from the inside out in the new year. We have so many friends, fans and wonderful promoters
here in addition to natural beauty and resources, I look forward to working with each and every one of you this year! When this
photo was taken I had a festival on the brain, a new one, pretty magical with space for music, film, art, education....Call me, let's make it happen.
IN ADDITION TO REPRESENTING A TOP NOTCH ECLECTIC ROSTER OF NATIONAL TALENT WE ARE THE GO TO FOR MANY LOCAL EVENT PLANNERS AND WE ARE EXPANDING WITH OUR NEW DIVISION ALTWorld, AUSTIN LIVE TEENS, THEATRICAL BOOKING FOR KIDS!
Congratulations to "Cover Girl" Suzanna (Read Austin Chronicle story by Margaret Moser here), we are currently booking festivals and her spring and summer tours!
I want to share a heartfelt story from one of our most promising artists, Posted on November 4, 2008
"Sharon Jones Invites Nakia On Stage To Sing Duet, To Book Nakia & His Southern Cousins email here
Nakia joins Sharon Jones on stage for duet.
Last night, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings performed at La Zona Rosa here in Austin. The Red State Blues show benefited the Travis Country Democrats and one of my favorite organizations, SIMS.
You may recall my encounter with Sharon during ACL that was the highlight of the festival for me. If not, click here. When I found out that they were coming back to Austin, I made a point to show up early and say hi to the Dap-Kings and of course Sharon. Everyone remembered me from ACL and I gave them all a copy of the new unreleased CD, Water To Wine. I chatted with Sharon and Neil (Tenor Sax Dap-King) about my time in Africa and growing up in Alabama singing in the church. A little bit of time went by and it was time for them to take the stage.
A couple of songs in, they played the song that Sharon called me up on during ACL. Remember - that time it was totally random. This time, she called another fellow out of the audience and had some fun with him.
Then, they played a brand new song. As it started, Sharon looked over her shoulder to me and said, “Hey Nakia, get on up here! Come on Nakia!” and I hopped on stage as she began to serenade me with this new tune written by Dave (Trumpet Dap-King) called Are You Gonna Give Me All Of Your Love (I think?). As she and I danced and grooved, she turned the microphone toward me and I jumped in, responding to her call. The crowd went crazy and we turned it on! Back and forth we went on the stage singing to each other about how she needed all of my love and I wanted to give it to her. This culminated in me going down on my knees as if to plead and beg with her and then she slowly began to come down to meet me, with us pouring our hearts into the microphone and out into the audience.
As the song ended, the crowd was in a roar and I waved goodbye and left the stage. Sharon thanked me and told the crowd, “Now that was the real deal, y’all… Nakia’s the real deal. He’s got soul. And that’s what the Dap-Kings are all about.”
Later, Sharon told me that the song was brand new and they had only played it 2-3 other times and that she was really pleased with how it sounded with us both on it. Naturally, I suggested we record a version.
Here’s to hoping it happens.
Thank you Sharon & all of the Dap-Kings and to Kay and Graham for organizing the event and of course to my amazing booking agent Roggie Baer for making sure I was there to cross paths with Sharon again."

SEPTEMBER 2008
Welcome back to Austin!
We have a lot to show you this month! Please read on to hear about the best of new music at ACL
If you are on this site as a fan or friend or on our emailed newsletter list you have already heard ME brag about Nakia but here is what some other tastemakers have to say;
"If it seems like Nakia's 1970s soul revival has been a shot in the dark, tune in to the latest CD from stalwarts Steve Cropper & Felix Cavaliere. Meanwhile, grab a copy of Nakia's EP, Playing the Cards, and check out his meaty vocals and muscular grasp of the sound. Part Southern pulse, part Memphis-by-way-of-Texas attitude, all groove.–Margaret Moser"
"I receive dozens of demo recordings from aspiring Austin musicians; Nakia's submissions have always stood out from the pack. I am excited that his debut album is coming out so that all can hear his magic. He's got a lot of tricks up his sleeve."
-Jody Denberg - Program Director, 107.1 FM KGSR
“Seeing Nakia perform was the one true unexpected gem for me this year at South By Southwest. Soulful, passionate energy mixed with great songs make Nakia a name everyone needs to know.”
-Rob Bleetstein, Radioiocountry.com

New Album From Trevor Menear Garnering Local Praise
**************************************************
Our newest and brightest client released his debut last week and I wanted to share some early local press,
We are looking for shows with you this summer and fall. Please call or email with open dates and let us know
if you would like the CD mailed. I will include links for you here, please be sure to check out the video clips!
On his self-titled debut, TREVOR MENEAR conjures up images of his musical heroes Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman,
while creating his own accessible blues pop hybrid. His expressive voice is bolstered by his plangent, nuanced guitar
work that belies his young age. France’s CROSSroads magazine declares, “his playing is on par with Stevie Ray Vaughan
and Jonny Lang.” While his Shangri-La Music debut will be most people’s first exposure to Menear, many have already
discovered him through his participation on Warner Bros. Records’ “Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign
to Save Darfur,” where he sits in the company of such giants as Green Day and U2. His cover of John Lennon’s “John Sinclair”
was one of six exclusive bonus tracks selected for the American Express edition of the CD.
"Extraordinary guitar work and voice that belies his age...on the cusp of something big.”—THE GRAND RAPIDS PRESS
"At 21, his playing is on par with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jonny Lang at the height of their glory." —CrossRoads Magazine
Local Spin of the Week: Chicago's Trevor Menear
Posted by John Sinkevics | The Grand Rapids Press July 27, 2008
When I first heard Trevor Menear play his guitar in concert in the Grand Room of Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park
2 1/2 years ago, I knew I was listening to a kid with a special talent. Not only can Menear, now 23, play his guitar like a natural --
as if it's an appendage of his body -- but his soulful vocals give his blues-imbued songs real power...

Promoting Hacienda Brothers new album "Arizona Motel". Dave Gonzalez of the Hacienda Brothers will be touring this summer to celebrate the life of his friend and musical partner Chris Gaffney. There hasn't' been a tour in the past six years, since his days in the Paladins, that Gaffney hasn't been there right by his side. Yet there is no better way to honor the memory of Chris then to go out and play to the audience that loved him so. This will be a chance for all of Chris’ friends and fans to gather and pay tribute to one of the greatest American music performers in the past 20 years.

JUNE 2008
We have news! In the form of 3 very good, very cool and very ready new clients. Firstly, The Hacienda Brothers have a beautiful release recorded in the last bit of Chris's life, If you can get over the lump in your throat listen to it with his smile in mind, It is really good! and being honored properly by band brother Dave Gonzalez leading some pretty good players through the songs he and Chris and manager Jeb Schoonover wrote and also songs by the pick up band's singer (sharing that with Dave) Mike Barfield. They are called Stone River Boys and will be on tour this month and all summer.
Please welcome McLemore Avenue just in time for Holiday party bookings. in the tradition of instrumental groups like Booker T. & the MGs, The Meters, Jimmy Smith, and Medeski, Martin and Wood--combines elements of southern soul, R & B, jazz and other genres with an original sound that is unique to Austin, Texas.
"Suzanna Choffel deserves a listen because she's among the most rare of artists, a performing songwriter who is based in Austin and was actually born and raised there. But that novelty aside, Choffel is a singer and songwriter who brings to bear a potent mixture of formal music education and natural talent. In a world in which it's hard to dodge the herd of performing songwriters, Choffel stands out with a clever and imaginative mixture of smart words and music that brings together pop, rock, jazz and more." Jim Beal Jr., Music Columnist San Antonio Express-News/Disc Jockey KSYM
We are so thrilled to invite you to see two artists in development at RajiWorld as they debut at this year's ACL Festival!!
Big news! You can be a part of changing history, please register! We need you

It is with a heavy heart and mind that cannot still believe this news is true that I have to share it with you...

Chris Gaffney - b. October 3, 1950 * d. April 17, 2008
Chris Gaffney, a beloved husband, revered entertainer, precious father, dear uncle, trusted friend, cherished brother has succumbed to liver cancer
Chris Gaffney passed away this morning, April 17, 2008 in the Orange County hospital in California with his wife Julie at his side. He suffered a fall at home last night and died in his sleep after being admitted to the hospital. Further details are unavailable at this time. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
"Chris Gaffney grew up in Arizona, where he learned to play the accordion as a young child. The instrument would later influence the performer's mix of norteño with country and rock & roll. Gaffney eventually mastered guitar as well and spent his teen years gigging in cover and house bands. In 1977, he formed a partnership with keyboardist Wyman Reese, who also produced Gaffney's initial solo efforts. Road to Indio appeared in 1986; it featured 1950s rock, soul, and dusty Bakersfield honky tonk. Chris Gaffney & the Cold Hard Facts followed in 1990, and delved into Gaffney's Hispanic heritage. His third solo effort, Mi Vida Loca, was issued in 1992. Loser's Paradise appeared in 2003. The album was produced by blue-collar stalwart Dave Alvin and featured contributions from Lucinda Williams and Jim Lauderdale." ~ Johnny Loftus, AMG. Gaffney also recorded and toured extensively as a member of Dave Alvin & the Guilty Men. Gaffney & Alvin formed a bond of brotherhood that has been a cornerstone in each of their lives.
Gaff's most current project, The Hacienda Brothers is a collaboration between singer and songwriter Gaffney and Dave Gonzalez, best known as the guitarist, singer, and songwriter with the veteran blues-rockabilly combo the Paladins. "Longtime friends Gaffney and Gonzalez first performed together when they played an informal set for a mutual friend's birthday party in 2002; Gonzalez was impressed with the results, and as he was looking for an outlet for the country-style songs he was unable to perform with the Paladins, he proposed a more formal collaboration. Teaming up with David Berzansky on pedal steel, Hank Maninger on bass, and Dale Daniel on drums, the duo adopted the name the Hacienda Brothers, and set up a base of operations in Tucson, AZ. Gonzalez, who has a passionate interest in vintage cars, struck up a friendship with fellow gearhead Dan Penn, the legendary producer and songwriter who was a key figure in the Muscle Shoals sound, and he persuaded Penn to produce the debut Hacienda Brothers album, the eponymous Hacienda Brothers. Penn also contributed two songs to the sessions, which appeared on the group's self-titled 2005 release. What's Wrong with Right was released the following year." ~Mark Deming, AMG. A live CD, Music For Ranch & Town, was released unofficially in August of 2007. Their sound, dubbed "Western Soul," culminated in the 2007 nomination for the Americana Music Association Duo/Group of the Year. In January of 2008 The Hacienda Brothers recorded their 4th CD, Arizona Motel, that will be released nationally on June 24th.
Plans are in the works for the band to tour in support of the CD in tribute to Chris Gaffney.
Chris Gaffney lived his life as a dedicated musician with little fanfare or ego. The industry recognition that had so long eluded him finally came with sincere praise & genuine respect for the quality of his work in The Hacienda Brothers. His fans worldwide have overwhelmingly shown their loved & appreciation - the www.helpgaff.com website has raised tens of thousands of dollars before a single benefit show has even been played. Gaff was universally loved for his quick smile, even temperament, keen observations and dry wit. He will be missed as much for those qualities as for his incomparable talent as a singer, songwriter and musician. And I will surely miss hearing the girls scream, "Gaffney! Gaffney! Gaffney!"
Gaff's favorite month of the year? "April, because it always brings hope."
Dianne Scott, Continental Confidential
This past January Chris recorded one last Hacienda Brothers record titled "Arizona Motel" that will be released nationally on June 24th.
April has in the balance of difficult with blessed showered us with more good music and memories then I could have asked for. Nakia & His Southern Cousins had the sold out crowd (4000+) on the edge of their seats during a blistering set which earned two shout outs from B.B. King himself last Sunday at The Austin Music Hall, Thanks to the wonderful staff at Direct Events and all the fans for treating them like they deserve!
You can see the band this Sunday (4/13) at Texas Hill Country Wine & Food Festival but no longer at Ego's, we have moved up and over to MoMo's beginning in May.
Help us congratulate Rosie Flores as host and narrator of the radio documentary "WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN", written and produced by Lex Gillespie(resides in DC), They have just received THE PEABODY AWARD!!!! The ceremonies will be held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York on June 16th and Rosie will be there to accept the award from TV commentator Brian Williams! We would love to book a few special shows to coincide with the press this honor will bring.

CHRIS GAFFNEY OF THE HACIENDA BROTHERS TAKEN ILL, HELPGAFF.COM INSTUTUTED TO AID MEDICAL EXPENDITURES
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Hacienda Brothers have some sad and unfortunate news to announce. Chris Gaffney, founding member and lead singer, has just been diagnosed with liver cancer. Gaffney had been recording as recently as January but was taken ill in February. He then began an extensive round of tests that led to the discovery of the cancer. Early next month Chris will begin undergoing intensive chemotherapy, and although he has health insurance it does not cover all of his medical costs and living expenses. In order to raise the necessary additional $60,000 a website has been set up by his family . Donation checks can also be written directly to the Chris Gaffney Recovery Fund, 403 43rd Street, Oakland CA 94609.
This summer the Hacienda Brothers will release a new CD, which was recorded just before Chris was diagnosed. A portion of the proceeds from the CD sales will go to the fund. The band is also scheduling several benefit concerts throughout the end of the year to help raise money and awareness for their ailing colleague, so please keep checking http://www.haciendabrothers.com for a complete list of shows.
A way for everyone to assist with raising money for Chris Gaffney is to pass along the website to any of your mailing lists or groups of friends. Remember any size donation is greatly appreciated. This is a very difficult time for Chris and he needs everyone’s support to pull through.

FEBRUARY 2008
To have spent my mother's birthday 2/22 at The capitol hearing Obama speak to Austin in the presence of my 9 year old, Lizzy and Cathy from RajiWorld and so many others in the right place at the right time was incredible. To hear Black Joe Lewis play was brilliant, Thanks to whomever made that happen. Wishing you some moments like this in your life.
2/16- I just read the coolest thing and just want to say out loud one more time, I love living in Austin! Anne Richards was in office when I moved here, out when I moved back to LA and now our Mayor never ceases to make me smile. "Praising his commitment to an environmentally-conscious energy policy, Austin's green-friendly Mayor Will Wynn today officially endorsed Senator Barack Obama for president. "For too long, we've allowed old divisions to hold us back," Wynn said. "Recently I've had conversations about energy policy with presidential candidates from both parties, and I believe Senator Obama is the only person who can move us forward on this critical issue. "Barack Obama gets it."
So if you are anything like me, the political climate effects you where you live if not literally so please think hard and make a choice for our collective future.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
NAKIA’S ANNUAL BIRTHDAY BASH SET FOR FEB. 20 AT JOVITA’S
Nakia & His Southern Cousins to perform at famed South Austin eatery
AUSTIN, TEXAS (Feb. 12, 2008) – To celebrate his 33rd birthday in style, Austin singer Nakia is inviting a few of his closest friends – and anyone else who’d like to attend – to a party on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Jovita’s in South Austin. “Nakia’s Annual Birthday Bash Celebration,” as it has come to be known, kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with former Weary Boy Mario Matteoli, who will warm up the stage for an 8:30 performance by Nakia & His Southern Cousins. The birthday set will feature scheduled appearances by Monte Warden and Cella Blue of the White Ghost Shivers, plus a few other surprises. The show also coincides with KGSR-FM’s highly successful Wednesday night Social Club meet-and-mingle nights at the famed Tex-Mex restaurant.
Not long after arriving in Austin, Nakia began performing as “Vic Odin” in Miles Zuniga’s Small Stars, a clever parody of not-quite-ready-for-Vegas lounge acts. His role garnered him considerable attention and recognition as a vocalist and showman. In February 2007, Nakia released his debut EP, Playing the Cards, to critical acclaim. He formed Nakia & His Southern Cousins to support the album and began making the rounds of area stages; their appearances quickly became known for show-stopping sit-in performances by some of Austin’s best players. ME Television named the band one of its 2007 Emerging Artists and filmed a concert special at the legendary Antone’s – Home of the Blues.
“You can’t fake soul, and on his debut release, Playing The Cards, Nakia proves that he’s the real deal,” praised Singer & Musician magazine. Ed Bailey, vice president of branding for Austin City Limits, said, “No one saw him coming – but they can't forget Nakia now.” And KGSR-FM morning show host Bryan Beck raved, “Nakia's debut is one of the best I've heard in a long time!”
Playing the Cards continues to win widespread praise, most recently being named a 2007 Texas Top 10 in the Austin Chronicle Critics Poll.
“Turning 33 this year is a real blessing,” says Nakia. “I am just so proud to be living out this dream I have had since turning 5 ... to sing songs and perform for an audience. None of it would be possible without this amazing community of Austin musicians. They’re like my second family.”
The KGSR Social Club is held weekly at Jovita’s, 1619 South First St., (just south of the Colorado river). It gives KGSR listeners a chance to hang out with one another and the bands they hear on the station – two per week. Independence Brewery will be providing Austin Amberlongnecks for $2.75. Attendees also get chances to win prizes such as tickets to see Bruce Springsteen in Dallas – an overnight stay at the Omni Hotel included. (For more information about the KGSR Social Club, visit www.kgsr.com.)
Maybe it has to do with the heart but February sees us skirt deep in booking tours for amazing women. We will bring Amy Cook and Anne McCue to the South East in late April/ early May and the west coast in June and The powerhouse team of Rosie Flores with Cindy Cashdollar to the west coast also in June.
Ranch & Coast, San Diego's luxury lifestyle magazine recently conducted a readers' poll in which readers voted on a number of categories in the arts, fashion, dining, etc. A.J. Croce was voted as readers' favorite local musician. Way to go A.J.! We are so excited to present him during SXSW with his full band featuring a rhythm section made up of Elvis Costello's attractions!
Our Austin Music Foundation (AMF), along with Mayor Will Wynn, today announced a month-long series of events and activities that will spotlight musical artists and the significant contribution they make to the Austin community. The program, Love Austin Music Month, will recognize a selection of musicians and venues that are representative of Austin's diverse and vibrant music scene.
It is truthfully only January 22 but feels like March already from where I sit so to compromise I hope you will enjoy your early February update. Tonight sees The Austin premiere of 'Honeydripper,' with Gary Cark Jr., Gotta love a job that has Tuesday night perks like this, speaking of current movies, I highly recommend 'Alvin And The Chipmonks' for a dead on comic portrayal of the music industry and it's age old dark side. Now I can finally write that, "It happened to me" piece. As I mentioned just last update, The Mother Truckers have added new management, publishing, record co an PR (same co.), new band members and now new agents. We wish the the best of luck, It was fun to be there in the beginnings, you only ever get to do that once. And that is why we love March and SXSW so much, the never ending chance to discover! It is what beats the collective RajiWorld heart. Keep tuned for updates of what we love, who you will too and the parties we hope to see you at. For now, here is our official 2008 lineup.

JANUARY 2008!!
Welcome to the New Year! We have high hopes and are working hard to accomplish them early this year. According to feng shui, setting up an achievement corner or wall with your awards and honors can attract more, pay attention early in the year to your goals and dreams and set out to achieve them. We have a few already happening here.
Roggie was asked today to mentor again during SXSW, This is always a very special honor as it is a chance to bring in the next generation of agents and artists. Due to the great teamwork at RajiWorld, Roggie will be able to add a new division soon, This will enable us to produce your event from top to bottom with our favorite local and national vendors. Lizzy has been filling in for Roggie on day to day tour booking and has received many compliments on her work and sunny personality from clients and buyers alike. Cathy has just recently re entered the music business and was pleased to see her name already in print in an industry guide and find her old skills sharper then ever as her intuition kicked in on a deadline. These are survival skills and 2008 will see the return to many basic traits we have let go in the age of all this wonderful advancement. We are proud to combine what worked in the past with all the future has to offer us. Our clients have all been busy, we have a few who are currently extra busy: (Like Billy Harvey who literally GREW this!)
A.J. Croce, A.J. is very proud of his new album, Cage of Muses, in Spring '08. His band includes Brian MacLeod/ drummer and songwriter (Madonna, John Hiatt, Ziggy Marley, Chris Isaak, Tears for Fears, Christina Aguilera), Greg Leisz/ lap and pedal steel, guitar, mandolin, and bass (Tiger Army, Dave Alvin, Beck, Peter Case, Bad Religion, and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss), Davey Faragher/ bass (Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Sheryl Crow, and David Crosby), and Michael Bizar/ guitar (Phil Lesh, Jon Popper, Mike Gordon, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, and Jon Fishman) Amy Cook Amy begins a new weekly showcase at MoMo's every Tuesday, These will be very special Austin appearances. Billy Harvey, Billy has just released GROW GARDEN GROW which is fabulous and we are planning a special tour to celebrate it and his appearance on several top 10 lists for his last record (2007). Brownout, help us bring 2008 in with Brownout and their brand new release “Homenaje”, meaning “Homage”. They were winners in almost every category in The Austin Chronicle including NUMBER 1! in Top Ten Texas Federico, Our one and only painter Federico has been commissioned on several special projects lately for public consumption with our goal this year for many more. Friends of Dean Martinez continue to garner rave reviews for the music in the multi award winning documentary The Plagues and Pleasures of The Salton Sea Hacienda Brothers were nominated for "Group of the Year", performed live at the Ryman Auditorium for this year's Americana Music Awards on November 1st. Joining them on stage was producer Dan Penn, who helped them sing "What's Wrong With Right". Also on the show that evening, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs, Bruce Hornsby, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Joe Ely and many more
The Mother Truckers Have had a big year! new members (see above), new manager, label and a lot of touring. Nakia and His Southern Cousins are seeing stars , The debut EP, "Playing The Cards" has been chosen as one the Texas Top 10s by the Austin Chronicle's own Margaret Moser! We will continue to see Nakia on many more high profile events this year as they are by all accounts moving upward rapidly. Pamela Des Barres Our goal is to turn the next generation of college girls onto Miss Pamela's unique brand of feminism, writing and joy, We will be booking her to speak across the US.
You can find the best of lists in this week's Chronicle or online at their website where they are also now taking votes for this year's annual Austin Music Poll. Click here to cast your ballot today and make sure to include your favorite RajiWorld artists in any category you think fits. You can keep the love flowing and be a part of our wishes and resolutions!
DECEMBER 2007
What are you doing New Years Eve? This year we crave an outdoor public celebration, every city has one, This is a link to ours, "Street corners transform into galleries, storefronts into stages. A festival of art, imagination and creativity spreads across downtown Austin." I wish this idea to spread into our collective consciousness in the new year to follow, more art, more creativity and more outdoors! Happy New Year!
We are as excited as you are to hear Billy Harvey's latest and greatest, Grow Garden Grow, you can get it here.
Another tradition we highly recommend is any that features Nakia and Beatles songs together!
NOVEMBER 2007
In the nick of time for holiday parties and festival booking we are proud to bring you Brownout!
Grupo Fantasma's funky alter ego Brownout draws inspiration from a deep well and gives the Afro-Cuban sound of the '70s a face-lift by mixing in hints of hip-hop and soul. Throwback but not copycat retro, their music is timeless and honest, keeping the spirit of 70s afro-latin and funk music alive while honoring their South Texas roots.
Named one of Austin, Texas' 'Best Live Acts' by the Austin Chronicle, Brownout! is an 8 piece ensemble
complete with 2 guitars, bass, no nonsense latin percussion, and the "Best Horn Section" 2 years in a row at the Austin Music Awards.
4 STAR AUSTIN CHRONICLE REVIEW!
4 STARS IN AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN!
This update sees my personal favorite time of the year, my return part time to the office, Lizzy's first RajiWorld trip as a full agent and several of our clients playing a debut festival.
Join Amy Cook, Billy Harvey and Nakia at The South Padre International Music Festival November 2-4.
We love change and grounding in equal parts and the mystery of it in unexpected ways, me for the first time ever by planting myself into slow and steady recovery and Lizzy (RajiWorld's rock) by spreading her wings. We wish Jason (a temporary agent for us) the best of everything as he prepares for big change and beginning in his endeavor and thank him for his grace and help when Roggie needed it most. We are deep in summer festivals for everyone, fall touring for Billy Harvey, Hacienda Brothers and The Mother Truckers and lots of big local shows, privates and holiday parties for Amy Cook, Friends of Dean Martinez, Nakia and Skyrocket. SXSW is already occupying many brain cells and many magic and serendipitous moments.
Dec 1 will see a big event created just for you with love by Lizzy in house and one of my favorite promoters in a partnership with some of the most exciting artists in Austin. It is at Scoot Inn, RajiWorld and iLoveMikeLitt present Acknowledge Me! The premise behind the event is to draw attention to and unify the Austin indie scene.
So far we have 6 zine tables, 10 DIY tables, a few local record label tables, 4 vegan food donations (2 cookie bakers, Nada Moo ice cream, Sweet Leaf Tea), If you are proud of it and no one died to make it bring it one, we can always find more tables :) in fact if you rent tables and want to help us we will say yes.
We still need a few more sponsors... Sponsors receive logo placement on the event website, posters, handbills, and newsletters. Those donating $500-1000 will have banner display space at the event, be included in the above listed advertising, and receive a hand-made sign. Thanks to SXSW for being once again a trailblazer as our first sponsor.

We would like to thank the Americana Music Association and all the members for nominating them for this prestigious award. The awards ceremony will take place Nov. 1 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Look for RajiWorld Agent Lizzy Newton there this year, We are very proud of the band, label, Jeb and Cary for the work that has led to this honor.
We also keeping sending wishes for a speedy recovery for guitarist Dave Gonzalez after breaking his wrist in a motorcycle accident.
The Hacienda Brothers have just made available a special limited edition live CD, titled "Music for Ranch & Town". This is the first in a series of CDs produced by the Hacienda Brothers that will feature rare live recordings and studio outtakes. This initial release showcases the band live on one of their early tours of Europe and captures the intense energy of a Hacienda Brothers show. The Bros kick things into gear with an extended version of their instrumental "Railed" and end the CD 14 songs and 70 minutes later with the unreleased Gonzalez show-stopper "Gone". In between there are classic versions of "Mental Revenge", "Cowboys to Girls", "Walkin' On My Dreams" and "Cry Like A Baby". Previously unreleased tracks include Johnny Cash's "Home of the Blues", Johnny Paycheck's "If I'm Gonna Sink" and a new instrumental "Brotherized". What perhaps might be the highlight on the CD is a 12 minute version of the accordion-blues ridden "Since I Met You Baby". If you've ever been to a Hacienda Brothers show, this is a must have for all

This should get you in the mood for songs that were one of my earliest inspirations to to make a life out of helping great songs be heard. Dualtone will release Anchored In Love: A Tribute to June Carter Cash this month. It was conceived and produced by John Carter Cash, the only child of Johnny and June, and features songs written by or associated with the beloved singer, and performed by an eclectic collection of family and friends and luckily John Carter considered me enough of a friend to hear our lovely Grey DeLisle and she was added to the project!
Track Listing: If I Were a Carpenter - Sheryl Crow and Willie Nelson/Jackson - Carlene Carter and Ronnie Dunn/Wildwood Flower - Loretta Lynn/Far Side Banks of Jordan - Patty Loveless and Kris Kristofferson/Keep On the Sunny Side -Brad Paisley/Wings of Angels - Rosanne Cash/Ring of Fire - Elvis Costello/Road to Kaintuck - Billy Bob Thornton and the Peasall Sisters/Big Yellow Peaches - Grey DeLisle/Kneeling Drunkard Plea -Billy Joe Shaver/Will the Circle Be Unbroken -Ralph Stanley/Song to John - Emmylou Harris. (Dualtone)
For some reason each year this time I fall or grow a little, sort of like spring fever but with direction. I meet "keepers", I discover new bands and friends of such grace and substance I tend to forget my whole lucky life has been that way. A basic principle of Lao-tse's teaching was that this Way of the Universe could not be adequately described in words, and that it would be insulting both to its unlimited power and to the intelligent human mind to attempt to do so. Still, its nature could be understood, and those who cared the most about it, and the life from which it was inseparable, understood it best. So to best capture this phenomenon I have decided to share my new pals and finds with you so they may inspire and cross pollinate your world too with their unique magic.
First, he who brought me to the dance, before I came upon music as business I worked in the field of fashion (also Chemistry..next time for that story), My favorite Rock star then was one Manuel and his museum quality creations. A new generation of designers will get to share in his genius with a new program for study called The Friends of Manuel and led by the too darling for words Alice Sells.
I met her at the same wonderful party I met the legendary Dargi of Black on Black Music, graphic designer Pam Esposito who was not only a fan of our own Jesse Dayton but of my new faves The Vaquetones, the adorable Stephanie Langston from News 2, the very talented and maybe soon to be selling his wares in Austin Hap, The Cornbelt Cowboy, the super sweet Suzanne O'Keeffe of the best idea I have heard in a long time. Other memorable days and nights were spent in the company of old friends and a few new and definitely gold (as in records past and future!) ones. I feel blessed to have heard old stories from Gail Davies and new songs from her son Chris Scruggs who brought the whole trip full circle with his upcoming record made out in Tucson! where my whole trip began under the wise words and musical taste molding of Howe Gelb, Thanks again Howe!
Much love to Rosie and Briana, Mike Stinson and Warren Pash for sharing it with me! and to Deborah for pointing me sharply in that direction! Too many happy happenstance moments to count...

AUSTIN, Texas, March 15 (UPI) -- British rock icons Pete Townshend and Ian McLagan performed a special tribute to a late colleague at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
Townshend, of The Who and who was the festival's keynote speaker, joined former Faces keyboardist McLagan and his Bump Band at the annual Austin Music Awards for two songs during a tribute set for the late Faces bassist Ronnie Lane.
McLagan released an album last year dedicated to Lane. Townshend and Lane had collaborated on a set called "Rough Mix" in 1977.
by Todd V. Wolfson
They played the "Rough Mix" track "Kuschty Rye" and the Small Faces hit "What'cha Gonna Do About It," the latter of which featured some inspired soloing by Townshend.

Wednesday night is everyone's favorite with the Austin Music Awards. The Music Awards are presented by The Austin Chronicle and SXSW and co-sponsored by 107.1 KGSR and is a benefit for the SIMS Foundation. This year the poster will be created by RajiWorld's pet painter Federico. Expect a rare performance by Ian McLagan and the Bump Band with special guests and some surprise winners on the arm of Miss Pamela Des Barres and Kathy Valentine. JANUARY 2007!
South by Southwest has just announced a forward-thinking and environmentally responsible new energy plan for this year's event!
Beginning this year, SXSW will be partnering with Austin-based renewable energy market leader Green Mountain Energy Company to offset 100% of carbon emissions arising from all SXSW activities - clubs, travel, offices, convention center, etc.
The festival/conference has purchased 376MW of Texas wind energy carbon credits from Green Mountain to offset the estimated 250 metric tons of carbon emissions that will be produced by SXSW this year.
SXSW is also working with Ecology Action of Austin to recycle all waste from their outdoor parties and events and will use biodiesel in generators and production trucks.

NOVEMBER 2006

Federico Archuleta is often found mid-spray but soon you will have the chance to meet him standing still, We are thrilled to bring our first visual artist to RajiWorld, as you can see he likes music like we do and he has excellent taste. We will present a full art show in conjunction with our annual and not to miss thank you party in March. Stay tuned.
November has been good to us, We also partner with two old friends to bring you two new bands just in time for your holiday parties. Both will have you and your invited dancing non stop. Please take a moment to check out The Hacienda Brothers and Jeff Hughes and Chaparral.
It is not easy to find news to top opening for the Stones in your own city but I have to so let's take a moment before congratulating our other clients for exciting achievements this month to focus on the upcoming elections. Remember we need to keep this part of our world in balance to allow the art a voice and venue. Voter registration deadlines have hit! There're only a few states left that allow voter registration for this November's election.
If you're not registered yet there's no need to worry. You don't need to go to the DMV or the library to get it done. You can register yourself to vote from home right now.
All you have to do is use this online tool and then print out your form, sign it, and mail it in.
November also sees the private party circuit heating up and The Austin Chronicle has just voted our own K-Tel Hit Machine as "Best Reason To Pawn Your Karaoke Machine- That K-Tel Hit Machine is one of the most beloved bands in originality obsessed Austin should be no surprise to anyone who's seen them do "Hot Legs." Or packed into Antone's for their ELO tribute. Or salivated over their looming "Eighties explosion." What started as a goof among friends has certainly grown – have them quote their fee sometime – but hasn't really changed; it's still a bunch of friends, who happen to be some of Austin's most talented musicians, getting together to jam on songs they all grew up on. The songs may be other people's, but what makes K-Tel so delicious is that they do them with a style all their own".

IAN MCLAGAN & THE BUMP BAND JOIN THE ROLLING STONES
AS SPECIAL GUEST ON "A BIGGER BANG" WORLD TOUR IN AUSTIN, TX
AUSTIN - September 16, 2006 - The Rolling Stones are set for their inaugural performance in Austin, Texas, with 'A Bigger Bang' than ever before, meeting up with their old pal and former keyboardist, Ian "Mac" McLagan. McLagan first opened for the Stones back in 1964 as a member of the Muleskinners. Since then, he's been a member of the Small Faces and Faces, and continues to be one of the most-utilized keyboardist's in rock history. This time, joining Mac to open the show will be his fabulous Bump Band, which features "Scrappy" Jud Newcomb, Don Harvey, and Mark Andes.
One of the recognized masters of the Hammond B-3 organ and electric piano, McLagan has toured and recorded with the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bragg, and all points in between. Ian McLagan & the Bump Band keep alive the legacy of his former bands, where the raw energy of the music matches perfectly the earthy, real-life lyrics. Austin's favourite British import, Mac moved there in the 1994 and has since become one of the most beloved figures on the local scene. He and the Bumps have released several albums that extend the legacy of his former bands without paling in comparison. McLagan's sixth and finest solo CD, "Spiritual Boy - an Appreciation of Ronnie Lane", is a loving tribute to his old friend and bandmate, and features songs written by this most-beloved musician. "Spiritual Boy" has achieved chart success in Mojo Magazine as well as glowing reviews in Rolling Stone, No Depression, Goldmine, and the Austin Chronicle.
McLagan was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for his outstanding contribution to British music in 1996, and his outrageously funny autobiography, "All The Rage" is published by Pan/Macmillan. He compiled and produced the Faces four-disc boxed set, "Five guys walk into a bar...", for Rhino/Warner's Records, and was inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame in 2004. He recently received a rare honor on April 6th, when it was proclaimed 'Ian "Mac" McLagan Day' in Austin, Texas.
Ian McLagan & the Bump Band extend a warm Texas welcome in what marks The Rolling Stones' first concert in the Live Music Capital of the World.
Tickets are currently on-sale and selling out fast for the October 22 show in Austin. For Official Rolling Stones tour information visit www.rollingstones.com.
We are out of breath. Here comes ACL fast on the heels of a tremendous time in South Park CO (almost 10, 000 feet high) with Billy Harvey and Steve Poltz as well as many new friends. The low hot steamy landscape of Austin feels like home and we welcome you to share our home with us this week. You can meet us at Mac and The Bump Band's show Saturday, September 16 -Zilker Park - Washington Mutual Stage(3:15pm). I think they have some pretty exciting news about the next show you will catch them at in this same location:)
We love our little city and ask you to please help us keep it special, please bike, share a ride or support our local bus system.
Austin City Limits Festival Shuttle
As part of its commitment to achieving cleaner air in Austin, Capital Metro has been investigating vehicles that use a combination of electric and diesel power. After conducting two separate tests, Capital Metro has decided to purchase six new 22-foot hybrid-electric buses. These buses are 88% to 96% cleaner burning than the EPA 2003 standard for diesel bus engines.
A last minute change of plans saw Roggie attending The Kerrville Wine and Music Festival this past weekend instead of the Club Congress 21st Anniversary party. Now we know why, divine intervention brought her to a packed and captive audience to witness a true Renaissance man come to life. Imagine his white horse as a Harley and his delivery as more Barry White then white folk artist on that famous stage and you can begin to see what Roggie heard. Look forward to meeting our newest addition soon. He will fly in for your festival or private event, he will ride in for your bike fest or roadside attraction and yes he will still play your house concert but stand in line, we have a few folks already asking.. Please meet Michael Lille
We wish our clients fun filled tours all over the US this week! If you are not able to come out we have found a treat for you listen to at home, right now! This is a preview of what you might get at the joint Billy Harvey/ Steve Poltz shows, thanks Ally!

It is with a heavy heart that I add this information here for you. I know if you are checking you feel what we do which is more love then sadness for such a bright light to die on earth but live in heaven. For Kim McLagan from her loving husband Ian "Mac" McLagan- "... She is my shining light and always will be. Her life was a testament to love and healing and everyone who met her felt the glow from this warm, loving and giving being. She means everything to me but I know we'll be together again in a better place. She is a flower and a dream, and finally the Angel she always was...Her family and friends are spread all over the world but the outpouring of love for her is just a reflection of the love she gave. She said, "You get what you give" and as always she's absolutely right.
Kim is an Angel, finally."
Please come join us Tuesday, August 8 to celebrate her life.
If you are unable to join us in person please join the wonderful online community available for you to share your thoughts with Mac. We will be compiling a book of these for him. Mac's Bump Band secretary has a link here.
We have chosen a very important charity in Kim's honor. The Women's Advocacy Project is a statewide, nonprofit, legal organization with a mission to provide free legal advice, expand legal education, and promote access to justice for Texas women and children in need. The Project was established in 1982 to respond to the needs of countless women with questions about their legal rights and now operates six programs focused primarily on domestic violence and family law.
Checks may be made out to the Women's Advocacy Project
and mailed c/o RajiWorld to 806 A West 10th Street Austin TX 78701
Flowers may be sent to The Cook-Walden Funeral Home, from there they will be delivered to the memorial service at Zilker Park on Tuesday (August 8th). Please make delivery for Monday afternoon or ideally Tuesday before noon.

If you’re the kind of person who can free your inner dork and totally rock out to pop and rock classics from the Seventies and Eighties, this is your show, regardless of your singularity.
